Gorillas Set to Battle Lions in Midweek Tilt Wednesday

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will travel to Joplin, Mo., Wednesday (Mar. 26) for an MIAA midweek contest against Missouri Southern State University. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. (CDT) at Warren Turner Field.

Pitt State enters Wednesday's action 18-7 overall and 8-7 in MIAA play. The Gorillas dropped two of three games in a home series against No. 27 Fort Hays State University last weekend.

Missouri Southern is 16-11 overall (9-8 MIAA) entering Wednesday's match-up against the Gorillas. The Lions are seeking to halt a three-game losing streak after being swept on the road against the University of Central Oklahoma.

As a team, the Gorillas are batting .319 and scoring 9.2 runs per game to date. Pitt State pitchers are carrying a 4.49 ERA with 230 strikeouts in 214.2 innings of work. The Gorillas have made just 20 errors in 893 total chances (.978 fielding pct.). Offensively, Pitt State leads the MIAA in runs scored, slugging percentage (.549), doubles (76) and triples (15). The Gorillas rank second in the conference in batting average and RBI (212)..

The Pitt State pitching staff ranks second in the MIAA in ERA and opponent batting average (.251) and third in the league in strikeouts. Defensively, the Gorillas rank third in the conference to date in fielding percentage.
