Anthony Announces Staff Promotions and Additions

PITTSBURG — Pittsburg State University head football coach Tom Anthony announced that Tyrell Everett has been promoted to the role of Assistant Head Coach/Co-Defensive Coordinator and Gregg Hollins, the Tight Ends Coach, also will serve as Special Teams Coordinator for the staff.

Additionally, Anthony announced the recent hiring of Brandon Perkins as the Gorillas Cornerbacks Coach/Defensive Passing Game Coordinator and Parker Schrater as the Gorillas Safeties Coach.

Everett is in his third season on the Pitt State staff. He was elevated to the role of Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Run Game Coordinator in July 23 after initially serving as Defensive Line Coach in 2022. Everett will now share Defensive Coordinator responsibilities with Lynn Nutt.

Hollins is beginning year two with the Gorillas. He served as the Tight Ends Coach during the 2024 campaign and now has added duties as the program's Special Teams Coordinator as well.

"Coach Everett has been a huge part of our success over the past few years," Anthony said. "His additional roles are well deserved as he continues to impact Gorilla Nation and the Pitt State Football program.

"Coach Hollins has made an immediate impact on our program in his short time here. His knowledge of the game and his ability to build relationships is second to none. Adding more roles to his plate is something we will continue to do to help elevate our program."

Perkins comes to Pitt State after serving as Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach at NCAA Division II Eastern New Mexico in 2024. Prior to ENMU, he spent three seasons at Adams State University, serving as Defensive Backs Coach, Pass Game Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator from 2021-22 and serving as Defensive Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator in 2023.

Perkins, a Tucson, Ariz., native, also served as a graduate assistant coach at New Mexico State University from 2019-2021. He also holds prep experience as an assistant coach at Tolleson High School (Tolleson, Ariz.) in 2019 and Cobre High School (Silver City, N.M.) from 2016-18.

Perkins played collegiately at Pima Community College and Western New Mexico University, where he also served as an assistant coach in 2015. He earned a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies from WNMU and a master's in education degree from New Mexico State.

Schrater joins the Pitt State staff after serving the past two seasons as a defensive graduate assistant coach at Kansas State University. The Valley Center, Kan., native assisted with the Wildcats linebackers the past two seasons.

Overall, Schrater served six years on the K-State staff. The previous four seasons he served as an undergraduate defensive coach, signaling play calls in both practices and games, pulling clips for safety position meetings, drawing play cards for the scout team offense and helping with film breakdown. Schrater received his start within the K-State football program as a student equipment manager in 2019.

Schrater earned a bachelor's degree in business administration with a minor in entrepreneurship from K-State in May 2023. He is completing a master's of science degree in academic advising from the school.

"Coach Perkins brings a wealth of knowledge to our program," Anthony said. "He has made immediate and lasting impacts on the programs he has been a part of over the last few years. Brandon's experience coaching on the defensive side of the ball is going to help our defense and our program continue to play at a high level.

Coach Schrater immediately blew our staff away during the interview process with his knowledge of the game and his ability to teach. Parker has been around some of the best defensive minds in college football over the past few years at K-State. I am truly excited to see the impact he is going to have on our young men and our program moving forward."
