PITTSBURG --
Kolby Dougan and
Elijah Seitz combined on a five-hit shutout and the Pittsburg State University offense broke open a tight game later for an 8-0 victory over Northeastern State University Friday (Mar. 28) at Al Ortolani Field.
The Gorillas improved to 20-7 on the season (10-7 MIAA) with the win while the RiverHawks (10-19, 7-8 MIAA) suffered their eighth straight defeat. The two squads will resume the three-game MIAA series with a 2 p.m. (CDT) contest Saturday (Mar. 29).
Dougan improved to 6-0 on the season by limiting NSU to four hits over 8.0 innings pitched. He issued one walk and hit a batter while registering 11 strikeouts. Seitz allowed one hit by recording the final three outs in the ninth.
Jake Skaggs smacked a two-run home run to stake the Gorillas to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. He added a run-scoring single in the eighth inning as well.
Hayden Dyer doubled, tripled and scored a pair of runs. Kaden Williams collected a pair of hits and scored twice, while
Alex Rodgers and
Connor Allen had two RBI apiece.
