Dougan Named MIAA Pitcher of the Week

Pitt State Set for Tuesday Road Game Against Drury

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Pittsburg State University graduate pitcher Kolby Dougan was been named the MIAA Pitcher of the Week Monday (Mar. 31).

Dougan remained undefeated on the mound by rolling 8.0 shutout innings of work in an 8-0 victory over Northeastern State Friday (Mar. 28). The Topeka native limited the RiverHawks to four hits and a .143 opponent batting average while improving to 6-0 on the season. He issued one walk and registered 11 strikeouts in the contest, his sixth double-digit strikeout total in eight starts this season.

Dougan leads the MIAA in victories, WHIP (0.84) and strikeouts (15.14 K/9 IP). He ranks third in Division II in strikeouts, fifth in victories and sixth in WHIP. This is the third time this season Dougan has been named the MIAA Pitcher of the Week. He also garnered NCAA Division II National Pitcher of the Week honors on Feb. 13.

Gorillas Set to Face Panthers Tuesday
The Gorillas will travel to Springfield, Mo., for a non-conference contest against Drury University Tuesday (Apr. 1). First pitch is set for 5 p.m. (CDT) at Mark Wooley Field at Meador Park.

Pitt State enters Tuesday's action 22-7 overall. The Gorillas are riding a modest four-game winning streak after sweeping an MIAA weekend series against Northeastern State University.

Drury is 18-13 on the season. The Panthers split a four-game series against Quincy University this past weekend at Quincy, Ill.

As a team, the Gorillas are batting .321 and scoring 9.4 runs per game to date. Pitt State pitchers are carrying a 4.38 ERA with 264 strikeouts in 248.2 innings of work. The Gorillas have made just 22 errors in 1,032 total chances (.979 fielding pct.). Offensively, Pitt State leads the MIAA in runs scored, slugging percentage (.548), doubles (84) and triples (19). The Gorillas rank second in the conference in batting average and RBI (253).

The Pitt State pitching staff ranks second in the MIAA in ERA and opponent batting average (.252) and third in the league in strikeouts. Defensively, the Gorillas rank second in the conference to date in fielding percentage.
