KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Pittsburg State University women's basketball team played four players in double figure scoring as the top-seeded Gorillas rolled to an 89-46 win over Missouri Southern State University in the quarterfinals of the 2025 MIAA Postseason Tournament Thursday (Mar. 6) at Municipal Auditorium.
Maycee James scored a season best and team-leading 14 points to pace Pitt State (27-3) to its 27th victory of the season as the Gorillas advanced to the tournament semifinals Saturday (Mar. 8). Pitt State will meet the winner of a Friday night match-up between No. 4 seed Nebraska-Kearney and No. 5 Washburn.
The Gorillas led 22-15 at one quarter of play and Pitt State outscored MSSU (19-14), 18-6, in the second quarter to build a commanding 40-21 halftime advantage.
Pitt State shot 54 percent from the field in the game, making 34 of 63 attempts. The Gorillas limited the Lions to 30 percent shooting (19-63), including a tepid 2-for-14 from 3-point range. Pitt State was +12 in rebounding and the Gorillas forced MSSU into 12 turnovers.
James made five of six shots in the game, including a pair of 3-pointers. She added six rebounds and four assists in the contest.
Macie Mays (13),
Sydney Holmes (12) and
Harper Schreiner (11) also scored in double figures.
Karenna Gerber added eight points and a team best seven rebounds.
MSSU got 10 points apiece from Grace Frazier and Ryan Franklin.
