Maddox Thornton pitched eight solid innings, limiting Rogers State University to one run as the Gorillas scored a 2-1 victory Saturday (Apr. 12).
Thornton (8-1) picked up his eighth win of the season by limiting the Hillcats (21-15, 11-13 MIAA) to three hits while piling up seven strikeouts on the afternoon. He posted zeroes for six innings before allowing a solo home run to RSU's J Romero in the bottom of seventh. He bounced back to retire RSU in the eighth before turning the ball over to closer
Cooper Crouch, who got the final three outs to record his fourth save of the season.
Drew Bugner's sacrifice fly scored
Andrew Branson with the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning for the Gorillas (29-7, 18-7 MIAA), who logged their 11th straight victory.
Alex Rodgers had three of Pitt State's seven hits on the day, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base.
The Gorillas and Hillcats will wrap up the three-game MIAA series with a 1 p.m. game Sunday.
