Gorillas Complete Series Sweep of Hillcats Sunday

CLAREMORE, Okla. -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team claimed its 12th straight victory in a 15-1 run-rule decision over Rogers State University Sunday (Apr. 13). The Gorillas completed the three-game MIAA series sweep of the Hillcats with the win at RCB Bank Sports Complex and tied the program record for consecutive wins in the process.

Dagen Brewer homered twice as part of a nine-run sixth inning that turned a 6-0 Pitt State lead into a 15-0 advantage. Alex Rodgers and Hayden Dyer also smacked home runs in the contest for the Gorillas (30-7, 19-7 MIAA), who reached 30 victories for the fifth straight season and sixth time under head coach Bob Fornelli.

Tanner Leslie (4-2) scattered seven innings over 6.0 innings of work to record his third straight victory. Leslie allowed one walk and registered three strikeouts.

Pitt State recorded its 12th straight win for the third time in program history. The Gorillas also recorded 12th consecutive wins from Mar. 7-21, 1999, and from Feb. 23-Mar. 17, 2002.

Pitt State will seek its 13th consecutive victory Tuesday (Apr. 15) when the Gorillas travel to Rolla, Mo., for a non-conference match-up against Missouri University of Science & Technology. The Gorillas defeated the Miners, 8-7, in a previous meeting this season in Pittsburg on Mar. 5.
