WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Pittsburg State University softball team won game one, 4-0 of a conference doubleheader against Central Missouri on Saturday (Apr. 12) before falling in game two, 5-3 at the South Recreational Complex.
Ava Laurent (14-4) picked up a shutout victory, striking out 12 Jennies (24-16, 10-10 MIAA) to begin the twinbill.
Kendall Forbes scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning following a
Heather Arnett fielders choice, Arnett would score later in the inning off a
Kadyn Trochim single to center field.
Sophia Driver scored the third run of the game following an error and later in the fifth inning Arnett finished the scoring in game one following a wild pitch.
In game two the Jennies scored in the first inning to take an early lead and following a grand slam from Breanna Newton in the fourth, claimed a 5-0 lead. Pitt State (33-11, 14-4 MIAA) scored off three solo home runs by
Courtney Storey (3),
Kadyn Trochim (12) and
Sophia Driver (7) in the sixth inning but couldn't add more runs, falling 5-3 to end the weekend.
Up next will be the final home weekend of the regular season, beginning with a doubleheader against Nebraska - Kearney on Friday (Apr. 18) at 1:00 p.m. (CDT) from the Pittsburg State Softball Field.
