ROLLA, Mo. -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team rallied from behind by scoring 12 runs over the final four innings of play to claim a 17-12 victory over Missouri University of Science & Technology Tuesday (Apr. 15).
The No. 28 ranked Gorillas recorded their 13th straight win to improve to 31-7 on the season and set the program record for consecutive wins. Pitt State had previously won 12 in a row in both the 1999 and 2002 seasons.
The Gorillas smacked four home runs in the contest, one apiece by RIckey Sanchez,
Drew Bugner,
Dagen Brewer and
Andrew Branson. Sanchez drove in four runs in the contest, while
Kadyn Williams went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored, a triple and three RBI. Branson also finished the game 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. Bugner went 2-for-6 with three runs scored to extend his current hitting streak to 17 games.
Seven Pitt State pitchers took the mound in the game.
Braxton Haywood (2-0) earned the win in relief. He allowed one run over 2.0 innings of work in the seventh and eighth innings.
Brett Wiemers recorded four outs, all by strikeout, in the fifth and sixth frames.
The Gorillas will return home to the friendly confines of Al Ortolani Field to begin a three-game MIAA series against Washburn University starting Thursday (Apr. 17).
