JOPLIN, Mo. - The Pittsburg State University softball team finished up the regular season on the road against Missouri Southern State University on Saturday (Apr. 26) at the Pat Lipira Softball Complex.
MSSU (36-16, 16-8 MIAA) claimed the conference doubleheader by scores of 8-2 and 6-2 in five innings.
The Lions scored first in the opening game with a bases clearing triple from Bailey Dillon in the second inning.
Sophia Driver hit her ninth home run of the season down the left field line in the third to cut the lead to 3-1. MSSU scored in the fourth and fifth inning to make it 6-1 before
Courtney Storey doubled home
Alleyna Rushing in the sixth, making it 6-2. Missouri Southern scored two runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning to provide the final scoreline.
Pittsburg State (37-13, 18-6 MIAA) scored first in the second game of the doubleheader with
Heather Arnett recording a bunt single and scoring on the play after two MSSU errors in the third inning. Arnett singled home
Trista Peterson in the fourth to double the Gorillas lead, 2-0. In the fifth the Lions scored six runs before a weather delay ended the game.
Up next for the Gorillas will be the 2025 MIAA Championships in Hays, Kan., beginning on Thursday (Mar. 1).
