PITTSBURG --
Tanner Leslie pitched seven effective innings and the Pittsburg State University offense provided enough fire power for the Gorillas to claim a 5-1 victory and sweep a three-game MIAA series from Newman University Monday (Apr. 7).
Leslie (3-2) limited the Jets (8-26, 4-20 MIAA) to five hits in the contest. He allowed just a sixth inning solo home run to Newman's Anthony Cannavino and he registered seven strikeouts.
Braxton Haywood recorded the final six outs in relief for the Gorillas.
Pitt State (26-7, 15-7 MIAA) scored single runs in the first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth frames.
Josh Holmes doubled, belted a solo home run in the fourth inning and scored three times.
Alex Rodgers also went 3-for-4 with a double and three stolen bases.
Hayden Dyer also collected a pair of hits, including a double.
The Gorillas will return to action Wednesday (Apr. 9) by hosting MIAA rival Missouri Southern State University at 5 p.m. (CDT).
