Brannan Helps Propel Gorillas to 14-4 Series Opening Win

PITTSBURG -- Nixon Brannan smacked a pair of home runs, including a two-run walk-off shot in the bottom of the eighth inning, to help propel the Pittsburg State University baseball team to a 14-4 victory over the University of Arkansas Fort Smith in the MIAA series opener Thursday (May 1).

Brannan went 3-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBI in the contest to fuel No. 15 Pitt State's 13-hit offensive attack. Drew Bugner, Kadyn Williams and Hayden Dyer all had two hits as well.

Maddox Thornton (9-1) picked up his ninth win of the season. Thornton worked 7.0 innings and allowed nine hits but registered eight strikeouts.

The Gorillas (37-9, 25-9 MIAA) and Lions (13-31, 8-26 MIAA) will resume the series with a 3 p.m. contest Friday (May 2).
