Dagen Brewer each etched their names into the Pittsburg State University record book Friday (May 2) as the Gorillas posted a 9-4 win over the University of Arkansas Fort Smith.
Rodgers scored a pair of runs in the contest to set the Gorillas single season record with 73 runs scored. Brewer, who went 3-for-4 on the afternoon, doubled and smacked his 20th home run of the season to take sole possession of first place on the single season home runs chart.
No. 15 Pitt State (38-9, 26-9 MIAA) broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the bottom of the third inning. After UAFS (13-32, 8-27 MIAA) trimmed the margin to 4-2 in the top of the fifth, the Gorillas countered with five runs over the next three innings to take control.
Tanner Leslie (6-2) limited the Lions to two runs and five hits over 7.0 innings of work. He issued one walk and fanned six batters. Leslie picked up his 20th career victory with the decision, becoming just the second pitcher in Pitt State history to reach 20 wins.
Drew Bugner doubled and drove in a pair of runs for the Gorillas.
Nixon Brannan and
Josh Holmes also had two hits.
Pitt State and UAFS will wrap up the three-game series and the regular season slate with a Noon game Saturday.
