AUSTIN, Texas — Two members of the Pittsburg State University baseball team garnered College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America® accolades Tuesday (July 1).
Junior infielder
Dagen Brewer was named to the first-team Academic All-America® squad, while graduate pitcher
Kolby Dougan garnered second-team honors. Brewer has a 3.54 grade-point-average as a construction management major, while Dougan has a 3.82 GPA pursuing a master's degree in general studies.
Brewer hit .380 with 54 runs scored, 19 doubles, 24 home runs and 78 RBI on the season. The Topeka native led the MIAA in home runs, RBI and slugging percentage (.866). Brewer set Pitt State records for single season home runs and single game RBI over the course of the season. He was a first-team All-MIAA selection, and he earned second-team All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA), American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) in May.
Dougan posted an 8-1 record with a 2.76 ERA in 12 starts for the Gorillas this season. He finished with 110 strikeouts in 71.2 innings pitched. The Topeka native led Division II in strikeouts (13.81 K/9 IP) and WHIP (0.86). He led the MIAA in both categories as well as opponent batting average (.154). A first-team All-MIAA selection and the MIAA Co-Pitcher of the year, Dougan also garnered second-team All-America from the NCBWA, ABCA and D2CCA this season.
