KEARNEY, Neb. - The Pittsburg State University women's soccer team began MIAA play with a 1-1 tie on the road against Nebraska - Kearney on Friday (Sept. 26) at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium.
Following a Pitt State (5-1-1, 0-0-1 MIAA) corner kick, the Lopers (2-3-1, 0-0-1 MIAA) executed a successful counterattack in the 21st minute. Hanna Schimmer scored her first goal of the season with Billie Forrest picking up the assist.
The Gorillas responded in the 27th minute from an
Annie Payne far post shot that escaped the grasp of a leaping Susie Bovaird, making it a 1-1 game.
Both teams had chances in the second half with Pitt State firing off three shots that required a save and UNK finishing with two shots on goal in the final 45 minutes of action.
Up next for the Gorillas will be the Fort Hays State University Tigers on Sunday (Sept. 28). Kickoff from the FHSU Soccer Stadium is set for 2:00 p.m. (CT).
