Gorillas Begin Season With 2-0 Win Over Tritons

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Pittsburg State University women's soccer team began the 2025 season with a 2-0 shutout win on the road against Missouri - St. Louis at Don Dallas Soccer Field, Thursday (Sept. 4).

Pitt State (1-0) and UMSL (0-1) held each other off the score sheet in the first half, as both teams fired three shots in the first 45 minutes. The second half went in favor of the Gorillas with two goals from six shots, while the Tritons only mustered two shots that were off target.

Carrie Cunningham scored the first goal of the season from the penalty spot in the 82nd minute, notching her first goal in her collegiate career. Quickly after scoring the first goal, Ella Cazzavillan slotted home the Gorillas second goal of the game in the 83rd minute with Macy Malik picking up an assist.

Jocelyn Kramar went the distance in goal for the shutout and recorded one save. Cazzavillan led the team with three shots and was one of four to record a shot on goal. Adelynn Phipps and Sailor Jensen played the full 90 minutes.

Up next for Pittsburg State will be the Miners of Missouri S&T on Sunday (Sept. 7) in the home opener at the Gorilla Soccer Pitch, kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. (CDT).
