Hillcats Rally Late to Knock Off Gorillas, 64-59

CLAREMORE, Okla. -- The Rogers State University men's basketball team scored the game's final eight points to erase a three-point deficit and claim a 64-59 win over Pittsburg State University Wednesday (Jan. 14) at the Claremore Expo Center.

The Gorillas (11-6, 5-2 MIAA) led 59-56 on Mason English's basket with 2:27 to play in the game, but Pitt State went 0-for-6 from the floor the rest of the way.

RSU's Tim Jordan Jr. made a layup with 54 seconds remaining to give the Hillcats (10-6, 4-3 MIAA) a 61-59 advantage and RSU tacked on three free throws in the game's final 23 seconds to seal the victory.

English scored 10 of Pitt State's first 12 points of the game and finished with a team-leading 16 points. Ethan Sage added 11 points, while Donald Coats finished with six points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Pitt State shot just 37.3 percent (22-59) from the field in the game.

Jordan led all scorers with 20 points to pace the Hillcats.

Pitt State will travel to Edmond, Okla., Saturday (Jan. 17) to battle the University of Central Oklahoma at 1:30 p.m. (CST) at Hamilton Field House in the MIAA TV Game of the Week.
