PITTSBURG — Deyanna Douglas scored a game-high 24 points to lead the streaking Northeastern State University RiverHawks to an 80-76 win over No. 11 Pittsburg State University Wednesday (Jan. 28).
The Gorillas (14-4, 7-2 MIAA) led by 12 points, 53-41, with 3:26 remaining in the third quarter, but NSU (16-3, 8-2 MIAA) scored 16 of the next 19 points to take a 58-57 lead with 8:55 to play in the game. The RiverHawks extended their margin to eight points, 68-60, three minutes later to take control of the ball game and record their sixth straight win.
Ja'Miya Brown paced Pitt State with 22 points, while
Kaycee McCumber (12) and
Marin Adams (11) also scored in double figures. Harper Screiner also contributed nine points, a game high 10 rebounds and four assists.
The Gorillas were victimized by 20 turnovers in the contest and the RiverHawks outscored Pitt State, 20-9, at the free throw line.
Gabrielle Tilly added 16 points and seven rebounds for NSU.
Pitt State will return to action Saturday (Jan. 31) to host the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith at 1:30 p.m. (CST) at John Lance Arena.
