PITTSBURG - The Pittsburg State University women's soccer team began the weekend with a hard fought 0-0 draw against Emporia State University on Friday (Oct. 2) at the Gorilla Soccer Pitch.
For the No. 4 Gorillas (9-0-2, 3-0-2 MIAA) this was the second match in a row to be shutout and marked the 11th straight match they didn't allow their opponents onto the scoreboard. ESU (5-2-3, 2-0-2 MIAA) for the second straight season on the road finished with at least one red card and a 0-0 scoreline against PSU in Pittsburg.
As a team, Pitt State held a 19-3 advantage for shots, 10-2 for shots on goal and 14-2 for corner kicks.
At the half, with a 0-0 score the Gorillas had fired off 10 shots with five requiring a save from Terra Rybuck. In the second half, Peyton Pipes for ESU was shown a pair of yellow cards in a 17-minute span to be removed from the game and leave the Hornets with 10 on the field at 77:41. Following the dismissal, PSU had shots on goal from
Sarah Peyton Webb and
Carrie Cunningham that required intervention from Rybuck to keep the score nil-nil.
For the match,
Abby Hoffman led all players with five shots while being joined by
Ryann Caruth atop the PSU team leaders for shots on goal with a pair.
Jocelyn Kramar recorded a pair of saves for the Gorillas with one coming in each half.
Rybuck claimed a match and season-high 10 saves for the Hornets. Megan Kephart for ESU was the lone member of the team to register a shot or shot on goal.
