Webb Leads No. 6 Gorillas to 13-3 Win in Home Opener

PITTSBURG -- Isaac Webb book-ended a pair of home runs in the first and eighth innings to help lead the Pittsburg State University baseball team to a 13-3 win over Maryville University Friday (Feb. 13).

Webb smacked a two-run homer as part of a three-run first inning to help stake the No. 6 ranked Gorillas to an early 3-0 lead and he closed out the run-rule victory with a three-run blast in the eighth frame. The win helped Pitt State improve to 8-0 on the season and provided the Gorillas with a victory in the home opener at Al Ortolani Field.

Preston Giltner (1-0) limited the Saints to one run on four hits over 5.0 innings of work. He registered three strikeouts. Bradyn McClure got the final nine outs to pick up a save.

Eric Bacon collected three of the Gorillas' 12 hits in the contest. He tripled, scored three times and drove in a pair of runs. Dagen Brewer extended his school record hitting streak to 28 games with a third inning single. He also doubled and compiled two RBI. Andrew Branson had two hits and two RBI, while Landin Midgett posted two hits and secured his team-leading 22nd RBI of the season.

The Gorillas and Saints (1-3) will now play a doubleheader Sunday (Feb. 15) beginning at Noon. Saturday's scheduled game has been postponed due to the threat of rain.
