PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader against Maryville University, 10-5 and 10-0, Sunday (Feb. 15) to log the best start to a season in program history.
The No. 6 ranked Gorillas become the first Pitt State squad to open a campaign with a 10-0 record. The 2025 Gorillas posted a 9-0 mark to start the year en route to recording a program best 42 wins for the season.
On Sunday,
Eric Bacon and
Grant Nottlemann each collected four hits in Pitt State's 10-5 victory in game one. Bacon drove in four runs, while Nottlemann doubled twice and posted two RBI. Jadyn McNealey had two hits, scored twice and stole a pair of bases.
Starter
Zach Voss (3-0) picked up his third win of the season. He allowed two runs on six hits over 6.0 innings of work, registering a season-best eight strikeouts.
Ty Blecha tossed 3.0 innings of two-hit relief with four strikeouts.
In the nightcap, starter

Bradley Neill and
Ethan Froud combined on a two-hit shutout. Seitz limited the Saints (1-5) to two hits over 4.0 innings of work. He issued two walks and notched four strikeouts. Long added four strikeouts in 2.0 inning of work, while Neill logged a pair of strikeouts in his inning of work. Froud earned a save after getting three outs in the top of the eighth in a 3-0 game. The Gorillas exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the frame to halt the game by run-rule.
Dagen Brewer, who extended his Pitt State record hitting streak to 30 games, smacked a two-run homer in the Gorillas' three-run third inning and he capped the squad's seven-run eighth inning outburst with a two-run double to end it. He finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the game.
Landin Midgett also smacked a bases loaded triple to raise his team-leading season RBI total to 26.
The Gorillas will open MIAA play next Friday (Feb. 20) by starting a three-game home series against Missouri Western State University.
