PITTSBURG --Â The Pittsburg State University men's and women's indoor track & field teams posted strong showings on day one action of the 11th Annual Russ Jewett Indoor Gorilla Classic Friday (Feb. 13) at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
The Pitt State women secured a pair of individual event wins with
Jazmine Williamson claiming victory in the long jump (19-9.5) and the distance medley relay of
Hannah Gibson,
Piper Hula,
Kelsey Bruening and
Paige Mullen crossing the finish line first in 11:41.72. Additionally,
Makayla Pavelka placed second in the long jump (19-5.5), while Abby Lassiter (58-6) and
Brennan Moeckel (56-9) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the weight throw.
Lorna Rae Pierce also placed third in the 5,000 meters (17:37.57).
In women's qualifying races,
Isabel Abdouch advanced to finals in the 200 meters (24.40) and
Kayvon Nubine (8.42),
McKinlee Walker (8.57),
Zyra Shivers (8.60),
Isabelle Peters (8.62) and
Payton Phillips (8.83) all qualified to finals in the 60-meter hurdles.
The distance medley relay of
Jordan Kilonzo,
Caden Williams,
Eli Gilmore and
Dylan Sprecker secured the Pitt State men's lone victory Friday, posting a winning time of 9:41.74.
Drake Stapleton also placed second in the weight throw with a PR toss of 65-8 and
Isaiah Webster finished second in the long jump with a mark of 23-6.25.
Braylon Thompson advanced to the finals of both the men's 60m (6.764) and the 200m (21.28).
Nate Watson also qualified in the 200m (21.52), while
Griouard Weddington (6.768),
Kemarri Stewart (6.769) and
Xavier Carmichael (6.86) also advanced in the 60m.
Tyrone Jackson (8.01),
Albert House (8.03) and
Na'Koriyon James all advanced in the 60m hurdles.
Day two action of the Gorilla Indoor Classic begins at Noon Saturday (Feb. 14).
