PITTSBURG --
Preston Giltner pitched six solid innings and the Pittsburg State University baseball team struck for five runs over the first two innings en route to an 8-2 win over Missouri Western State University Friday (Feb. 20).
The Gorillas, ranked No. 4 nationally by the NCBWA and No. 7Â improved to 11-0 on the season while claiming their first MIAA victory.
Dagen Brewer smacked a run-scoring triple with one out in the bottom of the first inning to extend his school record hitting streak to 31 games.
Isaac Webb added an RBI double and collected two hits on the day. Jayden McNealy,
Eric Bacon and Brewer all scored twice in the contest. McNealy also stole three bases.
Giltner improved to 2-0 on the mound. He limited the Griffons (5-6, 0-1 MIAA) to one run and four hits over six innings of work. He registered four strikeouts.
Bradyn McClure closed out the game and picked up his second save of the season by recording the final nine outs. He allowed a solo home run in the top of the ninth.
Pitt State and Missouri Western will continue the three-game series with a 1 p.m. game Saturday (Feb. 21) at Al Ortolani Field.
