Pitt State Debuts at No. 7 in ABCA Top 30 Poll

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team is ranked No. 7 nationally in the first in season American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Top 30 poll released Tuesday (Feb. 17).

The Gorillas are off to a program best 10-0 start to the season under first-year head coach Brock Buckingham after sweeping a three-game non-conference series against Maryville University last weekend at Al Ortolani Field. Pitt State defeated the Saints, 13-3, 10-5 and 10-0.

The Gorillas were ranked No. 6 in last week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA) Top 25 poll. This week's baseball writer's poll will be released Wednesday (Feb. 18).

The Gorillas currently rank second in Division II in scoring, averaging 13.9 runs per game, and sixth nationally in batting average (.381). Pitt State's pitchers also carry the third-best ERA (2.16) and the Gorillas rank third in WHIP (1.08). Defensively, the Gorillas rank sixth in fielding percentage (.988).

Pitt State will open MIAA play Friday by hosting Missouri Western State University in a three-game series.
