PITTSBURG – The University of Nebraska-Kearney women's basketball team played five players in double figure scoring as the Lopers knocked off No. 25 Pittsburg State University, 72-62, Thursday (Feb. 19) at John Lance Arena.
UNK (14-14, 7-10 MIAA) trailed 47-46 with 1:14 to play in the third quarter, but the Lopers scored the final five points of the period and eventually stretched their margin to nine, at 60-51, with 4:18 to play in the game.
Ja'Miya Brown scored a team-leading 21 points for the Gorillas (18-7, 11-5 MIAA), while
Marin Adams also finished with 13 points. The Gorillas shot 45.5 percent from the field in the game, making 25 of 55 attempts.
UNK made 50 percent (26-52) of its attempts in the game, and the Lopers outscored the Gorillas, 14-7, at the free throw line. Jilliam Aschoff (21), Tara Biocanin (16), Myleigh Weers (15) and Jordan Sears (14) also scored in double figures for UNK.
Pitt State will wrap up a four-game home stand by hosting No. 6 Fort Hays State University for Senior Day at 1:30 p.m. (CST) Saturday (Feb. 21).
