PITTSBURG - The Pittsburg State University women's basketball team fell in overtime, 74-71 on Senior Day Saturday (Feb. 21) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
Pittsburg State (18-8, 11-6 MIAA) got 21 points from
Ja'Miya Brown, 17 points from
Clara Swearingen and a 16-point 22-rebound double-double from
Kaycee McCumber. McCumer tied the school record for rebounds in a game and collected her eighth double-double of the season.
Fort Hays State (24-3, 15-3 MIAA) was led by Talexa Weeter with 34 points and 15 rebounds, Ellie Stearns finished with 14 points and Brooke Loewe collected a 12-point, 12-rebound, 10-rebound triple-double.
At the half, Pittsburg State led 36-25 after the Tigers were limited to six second quarter points. Heading into the final period of regulation, the Gorillas held onto a 52-41 lead after both team scored 16 points in the third quarter. The fourth quarter would see FHSU go on a 17-5 run over the final 5:23 of play in regulation to send the game into overtime. Weeter with 0.5 seconds remaining converted on a layup to make it 65-65.
In overtime, Fort Hays State broke the 65-65 deadlock with 3:54 remaining and didn't look back on their way to the 74-71 final score.
