Box Score MAGNOLIA, Ark. -- The Pittsburg State University plated six runs in the second inning to jump out to an early lead and ride that momentum to a 13-3 victory over Southern Arkansas University Monday (Feb. 2). The win helped the Gorillas complete a three-game series sweep of the Muleriders.
Newcomer Eric Bacon paced Pitt State's 14-hit attack by going 4-for-5 with a double, a triple and five runs batted in. Senior Dagen Brewer smacked a two-run home run as part of the Gorillas' six-run second inning, setting the Pitt State record for consecutive games hit streak (23).Â
Isaac Webb also enjoyed a four-hit game, delivering a double and a triple while driving in a pair of runs.
Cason Long (1-0) earned the win in relief. Long, who returned to the field after missing the 2025 season due to injury, worked 2.0 hitless innings, issuing three walks and registering three strikeouts. Elijah Seitz started the game and limited SAU to one run on four hits over 3.0 innings of work.
Pitt State, which swept SAU 11-2 and 14-1 Sunday, gave first-year head coach Brock Buckingham a 3-0 start to his Gorillas tenure. He becomes just the second Pitt State skipper to start his career with three wins, joining Matt Murray who did so in 2013.
The Gorillas will travel to Edmond, Okla., Thursday (Feb. 5) to take part in the UCO First Pitch Classic.
