PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University men's basketball team dropped a 65-56 decision to Fort Hays State University Saturday (Feb. 21) in the Gorillas home finale at John Lance Arena.
The Gorillas (15-12, 9-8 MIAA) fell behind by nine points, 31-22, at the break. Pitt State battled to twice take a one-point lead in the second half, the final time coming at 6:39.
Connor Rogers' jumper made it 49-48 at the time.
Donald Coats and
Mason English paced the Gorillas with 12 points apiece, while
Alijah Curry added 10 points. Coats posted his second double-double of the season by adding 13 rebounds to his scoring total. Rogers chipped in with nine points, while
Hayden Shanks finished with eight.
FHSU (18-9, 10-8 MIAA) got 14 points from Dan Mukuna, 12 from Jahvari Martino and 11 from Lucas Hammeke.
The Gorillas will close out the regular season with a pair of MIAA road games next week against No. 3 ranked Washburn Wednesday (Feb. 25) and Central Missouri next Saturday (Feb. 28).
