PITTSBURG -- The unbeaten Pittsburg State University baseball team will play host to Newman University in a midweek MIAA contest Tuesday (Feb. 24). First pitch is set for 2 p.m. (CST) at Al Ortolani Field.
Â
The Gorillas are 13-0 overall and 3-0 in MIAA play entering Tuesday's match-up against the Jets (3-10, 1-2 MIAA). Pitt State swept a three-game MIAA series against Missouri Western State University last weekend in Pittsburg, while Newman salvaged a win against Washburn University in the three-game series finale at Wichita Sunday (Feb. 22).
Â
The Gorillas are ranked No. 4 in the most recent National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA) NCAA Division II Top 25 poll released Feb. 18 and No. 7 in the first in-season American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Top 30 poll released last Tuesday (Feb. 17).
Â
Pitt State will seek to tie its program record for consecutive victories in the match-up against Newman. The 2025 Gorillas won a school record 14 straight games between Mar. 26 and Apr. 17 last year, while this year's squad enters the game on a 13-game winning streak.
Â
Senior outfielderÂ
Dagen Brewer outright claimed the MIAA record for consecutive game hitting streak with an RBI double in the fifth inning of Sunday's game against the Griffons. Brewer has hit safely in 33 straight games dating back to the 2025 season. He broke the conference's 28-year-old record of 32 games set by Central Missouri's Brayden Whitney in 1998.
Â
Pitt State currently leads the MIAA in batting average (.368), slugging (.545), runs (158), hits (160), triples (9), RBI (151), ERA (2.21), WHIP (1.02), opponent batting average (.201) and fielding percentage (.989).
