SHAWNEE, Kan. - The Pittsburg State University softball team picked up its 20th win of the season before suffering the first loss of the 2026 campaign to conclude the Top Gun Invite at the Mid America Sports Complex on Saturday (Feb. 28).
Pittsburg State (20-1) began the day with a 13-8 eight inning win over Rockhurst. The No. 23 Gorillas collected 17 hits and were issued eight walks in the game.
Lexi Davis led the team with four RBI, while going 3-for-5 with a home run.
Kadyn Trochim and
Rachael Schlotter also finsihed with multiple runs driven in.
Heather Arnett,
Alleyna Rushing,
Sailor Hall and
Haili Igou each recorededd two runs scored with Arnett finishing a home run short of hitting for the cycle. Hall got the win in the circle to improve to 3-0 on the season.
To end the night and wrap up the tournament, Winona State (13-2) came away with an 8-4 decision.
The Gorillas were led by a 3-for-4 outing from
Alleyna Rushing with Hall coming away with a pair of doubles.
Ava Laurent (7-1) struck out nine in 5.0 innings in the loss.
Up next for Pittsburg State will be a doubleheader against the University of Minnesota State - Moorhead Dragons on Friday (Mar. 6). First pitch from the Pittsburg State Softball Field will be at 2:00 p.m. (CST).
