PITTSBURG - Senior infielder
Heather Arnett with a single in the first inning of game one of a twinbill on Sunday (Mar. 8) broke the MIAA career hits record and helped lead the No. 22 Gorillas to a pair of run rule victories over the Minnesota State - Moorhead Dragons at the Pittsburg State Softball Field.
Pittsburg State (22-1) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning in game one before a 10 run second helped lead the way to the 15-3 final score in five innings. Arnett finished the game going 3-of-3 with a pair of runs driven in and scoring twice herself.
Kadyn Trochim and
Sailor Hall tied for the team lead with three RBI each as
Taylor Lundien led the team with three runs scored.
Lexi Franklin picked up her fifth win of the season with 3.2 innings of work as
Erica Schertz pitched the final 1.1 innings.
In game two, a 14-6 win over MSUM (1-16). The Gorillas were led by
Lexi Davis with a 4-of-4 performance for five RBI and two runs scored. Davis ended up being one of six Gorillas to score twice in the game. Hall capped off the day with her second home run in as many games, finishing with three runs driven in.
Emma Crabb (7-0) was perfect through three innings and finished with 4.0 innings of work for the win.
Amanda Gibilisco closed out the game in her season debut with a pair of strikeouts.
Up next for Pittsburg State will be the MIAA/NSIC Conference Challenge beginning on Friday (Mar. 13). The Gorillas will host the University of Sioux Falls in a doubleheader, Friday before playing St. Cloud State on Saturday (Mar. 14) in a twinbill to conclude the weekend tournament.
