Pitt State - Newman to Meet in Pittsburg Today

PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team will now play host to Newman University today (Mar. 11) at 4 p.m. (CDT) at Al Ortolani Field. The game was moved from McCarthy Field in Wichita to Pittsburg due to overnight and morning rain showers in central Kansas.

Pittsburg State is 19-1 overall and 9-1 in MIAA play. The Gorillas are ranked No. 2 in the most recent National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA) NCAA Division II Top 25 poll released on Mar. 4 and No. 4 in the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Top 30 poll released Tuesday (Mar. 10).

Pitt State took two of three games in an MIAA road series against No. 15 Emporia State University last weekend. The Gorillas bounced back from a series opening loss to the Hornets Friday to post 6-2 and 11-7 wins the next two days.

Newman is 4-16 overall and 2-8 in MIAA play to date. The Jets snapped a six-game losing streak with a 12-4 win over Northeastern State University Monday (Mar. 9).

Pitt State and Newman met previously in Pittsburg on Feb. 24 with the Gorillas claiming a 20-2 run-rule victory over the Jets.
