No. 11 Gorillas Run Rule Tigers, 4-0 To Begin MIAA Action

HAYS, Kan. - The Pittsburg State University softball team picked up a pair of run rule wins today over the Fort Hays State University Tigers on Saturday (Mar. 21) at Fleharty Family Field to conclude the first weekend of MIAA play.

Pittsburg State (30-1, 4-0 MIAA) claimed game one, 11-2 in six innings and ended the doubleheader in five innings, 16-1 against FHSU (14-15, 3-5 MIAA).

In the first game, Heather Arnett, Alleyna Rushing, Lexi Davis, Haili Igou and Kyleigh Lamont each collected a pair of hits with Arnett, Davis and Sailor Hall scoring twice. Emma Crabb (10-0) in the circle, struck out five in a complete game win.

The Gorillas in game two, scored eight runs in the second inning to blow open what ended up being a 16-1 decision. Arnett finished the game going 3-of-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Kadyn Trochim led the team with three runs driven in as six Gorillas collected multiple RBI on the game. Seven Gorillas scored twice in the game with the team collecting a school record nine doubles in the contest. Lexi Franklin picked up her seventh win of the season with a complete game effort in the circle.

Up next for Pittsburg State will be a road trip to Emporia State (Mar. 27) and Washburn (Mar. 28). ESU (19-8, 5-1 MIAA) will host the Gorillas in a conference doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. (CDT) at the Trusler Sports Complex. WU (24-11, 1-5 MIAA) is set to host Pitt State at Gahnstrom Field at 1:00 p.m.
