EMPORIA, Kan. - The Pittsburg State University softball team picked up wins 31 and 32 on the season in a road MIAA sweep against the Emporia State University Hornets on Friday (Mar. 27) at the Trusler Sports Complex.

Pitt State (32-1, 6-0 MIAA) claimed the doubleheader with a 5-3 score in game one and 9-2 in game two.

In game one, the Gorillas scored twice in the first inning and added another run in the third before Emporia State (19-10, 5-3 MIAA) scored off a two run home run in the fourth to make it a one run game (3-2). In the sixth, the Gorillas scored to make it a two run lead before the Hornets pushed across a run to make it 4-3 heading into the final inning. Lexi Davis in the seventh inning hit a solo home run to give the Gorillas a 5-3 lead as Sailor Hall closed out the game with a shutout inning.

Davis for the game went 3-of-4 with a team-high two RBI as Kadyn Trochim and Taylor Lundien accounted for the other runs driven in. Emma Crabb (11-0) got the win in the circle with 5.2 innings of work and three strikeouts, Hall picked up her second save of the season with 1.1 innings of shutout work.

To end the twin bill against ESU, Pitt State got on the board in the third and fourth innings off sacrifice flies for the first runs of the game. In the fifth the Gorillas took advantage of a pair of errors by the Hornets with a three run inning. ESU responded with a two-run triple to make it a 5-2 game in the fifth before Pittsburg State scored four in the sixth to provide the final 9-2 scoreline.
