Box Score TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team completed a three-game MIAA series sweep of Northeastern State University Saturday (Apr. 11) with an 11-2 win.
The Gorillas improved to 31-8 on the season (20-8 MIAA) with the victory. Pitt State completed Friday's suspended game against the RiverHawks earlier Saturday, taking a 13-3 win after entering the day with an 8-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning.
The Gorillas, ranked No. 9 nationally by the baseball writer's (NCBWA) and No. 7 by the coaches (ABCA), reached 30 wins for the sixth straight season, the eighth time in the past nine years.
Senior outfielder
Dagen Brewer reached another milestone in the rubber game. Brewer eclipsed the Pitt State RBI record by driving in three runs in the game. The Topeka native now has 81 RBI on the season and 159 for his two-year career. He surpassed Garrett McGowan's single season mark of 78 RBI from 2022 and he's tied for second place on the career record list with
Nixon Brannan (2023-25). Andrew Vogelbaugh (2015-18) holds the career record with 178.
Ty Blecha (3-1) limited NSU (13-27, 8-17) to three hits over 4.0 innings of work. He issued two walks and registered five strikeouts.
Cason Long worked 3.2 innings behind Blecha, compiling seven strikeouts.
Brady Stuewe and
Cooper Crouch combined for 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to wrap up the game.
Cooper Harris smacked a pinch hit home run in the contest.
Eric Bacon and
Isaac Webb had two hits and two RBI apiece.
Cooper Wesslund scored three runs.
The Gorillas will return to action Tuesday (Apr. 13) with a 3 p.m. (CDT) road game at Bolivar, Mo., against Southwest Baptist University.
