HAYS, Kan. --
Bradyn McClure tossed six effective innings on the mound and the Pittsburg State University baseball team's bats came live for 12 runs as the Gorillas took game one of a three-game MIAA series from Fort Hays State University, 12-2, Thursday (Apr. 2).
The Gorillas (27-6, 16-6 MIAA) plated a run in the second inning when
Landon Bruce drew a bases loaded walk and Pitt State broke the game open with four more run in the third inning and three runs in the fourth frame.
Dagen Brewer smacked his 14th home run of the season to lead off Pitt State's third inning scoring spree. He added a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
Isaac Webb and
Grant Nottlemann had two hits apiece and each scored three times.Â
The Gorillas benefited from 15 walks in the contest and FHSU pitchers hit two batters.
Jadyn McNealy drew four bases on balls and stole three bases. Webb also had a pair of steals. Pitt State base runners swiped seven bags overall in the game to break the school's single season stolen base record. The Gorillas exited the game with 95 stolen bases on the year. McNealy leads Division II with 37 thefts. He needs two more stolen bases to tie former Gorilla Jeff Deao's single season record of 39.
McClure (3-0) limited the Tigers (9-23, 6-16 MIAA) to a pair of runs and four hits over six innings. He walked four and registered five strikeouts.
Preston Giltner worked a scoreless seventh inning to complete the pitching battery.
Pitt State and FHSUÂ will continue the series with a 3 p.m. (CDT) game Friday (Apr. 3) at Larks Park.
