PITTSBURG - The Pittsburg State University softball team dropped a conference doubleheader against the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos on Friday (Apr. 24) at the Pittsburg State Softball Field.
Game one needed extra innings with No. 17 Bronchos (39-10, 16-4 MIAA) coming away with a 5-2 win in eight innings, with Central Oklahoma taking game two, 7-3.
To begin the day, the No. 2 Gorillas (43-4, 15-3 MIAA) got on the board with a two run sacrifcie fly and Bronchos error in the third inning to score
Heather Arnett and
Rachael Schlotter. UCO responded with a solo home run in the fourth before an RBI single tied it up 2-2. In extras, Central Oklahoma got on the board with a solo home run and a two run home run to take the game 5-2.
Sailor Hall finished the game 3-of-4 from a trio of singles and a stolen base to lead the team.
Game two would see the Bronchos score in the second, third and fourth innings to take a 6-0 lead.
Kadyn Trochim got the Gorillas on the board with her fourth home run of the season before a two run single from
Kyleigh Lamont scored Hall and
Lexi Davis to cut the lead in half (6-3). Central Oklahoma added an insurance run in the seventh for the 7-3 final score.Â
Up next for the Gorillas will be the Newman University Jets on Saturday (Apr. 25). A pregame senior day ceremony will be followed by a Noon start time at the Pittsburg State Softball Field.
Note: Heather Arnett had her NCAA All Division hitting streak come to an end at 48 in the second game of the doubleheader.
