ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Pittsburg State University softball team fell on the road in a pair of makeup games against the Missouri Western State University Griffons at the Griffon Softball Field on Tuesday (Apr. 28).
Game one would see the Griffons (30-17, 9-13 MIAA) take game one, 10-8 and game two, 7-3.Â
Pittsburg State (45-6, 17-5 MIAA) got on the board in the first inning off a
Lexi Davis three run home run in game one for the early lead.
Kadyn Trochim added a two run home run in the second before a solo home run from Davis made it 6-0 after two innings. MWSU, responded in the third with a five run inning before a
Sailor Hall two run home run in the fourth made it 8-5 in favor of the Gorillas. Missouri Western in the fifth inning scored five runs and kept the Gorillas off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
Davis led the team going 3-of-4 with a trio of runs scored, four RBI and two home runs hit. Hall and Trochim each drove in two runs in the game with home runs and
Heather Arnett scored twice.
In game two, MWSU scored three runs in the first inning before a grand slam in the second inning made it 7-0.
Haili Igou doubled home
Taylor Lundien in the fifth to put Pittsburg State on the board in the fifth before a pair of runs were scored in the sixth to make it a 7-3 score.
Amanda Gibilisco in her second collegiate appearance in the circle pitched a shutout four innings of relief, striking out three and only allowing one hit and a walk for base runners.
Pittsburg State is set to end the regular season on Saturday (May 2) in Pittsburg, at the Pittsburg State Softball Field and No. 11 Missouri Southern. First pitch of game one against the Lions is set for 1:00 p.m. (CDT). Having already qualified for the MIAA Championship in Emporia, Kan., the Gorillas after every game is completed on Saturday in the conference will find out what seed they are and the opponent they will face in the quarterfinal round of the MIAA Championship.
