JOPLIN, Mo. -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team rallied from an early deficit but couldn't catch up to Missouri Southern State University in a 14-12 loss Tuesday IApr. 7) at Warren Turner Field.
The Lions (23-12, 18-7 MIAA) burst out to an 8-0 lead before the Gorillas plated a run, and MSSU extended its edge to 11-1 after four innings of play. Pitt State (28-8, 17-8 MIAA) chipped away with six runs in the fifth frame and three more in the seventh inning.
The Gorillas loaded the bases in the ninth, after trimming the Lions margin to 14-12, but MSSU reliever Carter Stover induced a pop out from Pitt State's
Grant Nottlemann to end the game.
Dagen Brewer,
Landin Midgett and
Andrew Branson all homered for the Gorillas.
Isaac Webb had a double among his three hits and he drove in two runs. Brewer, Branson and
Landon Bruce all had two RBI as well.
The Gorillas utilized nine pitchers in the game.
Pitt State will travel to Tahlequah, Okla., for a three-game MIAA series against Northeastern State University starting Thursday (Apr. 9). The series has been pushed up a day due to the weekend weather forecast.
