KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Pittsburg State University senior second baseman
Cooper Wesslund was selected as the NCAA Division II National Hitter of the Week Thursday (May 14) by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA).
Wesslund slashed .727/.786/1.636 in three games last week, while helping lead the Gorillas to the 2026 MIAA Baseball Championship at Edmond, Okla. The Lincoln, Neb., native had eight hits in 11 at-bats, including four doubles and a pair of home runs. He scored six times and drove in 14 runs, including nine RBI in Pitt State's semifinal victory over Northwest Missouri State University. Wesslund, who was voted the 2026 MIAA Baseball Championship Most Valuable Player, also delivered a game-ending two-run single in Pitt State's 11-1 run-rule victory over Emporia State University in the championship game Sunday (May 10).
For the season, Wesslund is hitting .391 with 54 runs scored, 11 doubles, five home runs and 54 RBI.
