PITTSBURG - The Pittsburg State University women's soccer team began the 2026 season with a bang, scoring a 5-0 shutout win at home against the No. 9 University of Missouri - St. Louis Tritons on Thursday (Aug. 27) at the Gorilla Soccer Pitch.
The Gorillas controlled the majority of play in both halves against UMSL (0-1), finishing with a 26-4 advantage on shots, 14-1 shots on goal advantage and 8-1 on corner kicks.Â
Pitt State (1-0) got on the board early with a
Ryann Caruth outside the box strike 1:20 into the young season putting the Gorillas up 1-0. Caruth was assisted by
Abby Hoffman and
Sammie Edwards.
Shayla Hunt at 27:31 made it 2-0 from inside the box with
Rose Harden and
Sarah Peyton Webb contributing assists.
Kaiao Zoller made it 3-0 at 40:41,
Mia Hunt and
Carrie Cunningham combined for the assists on the goal.
Edwards got the Gorillas on the board in the second half at 56:52, Caruth and
Avianna Gonzalez picked up assists on the goal. Cunningham finished off the scoring with a left footed far post shot into the upper-90 of the frame at 73:40.
Leading the team with five shots in the match were Edwards and Zoller, with the duo joined by Cunningham for the team lead for shots on goal with three.
Jocelyn Kramar started in goal, finishing with a save in 74 minutes of action.
Sabrina Schilt relieved Kramar in goal and played the final 16 minutes of the match.
Up next for the Gorillas will be the East Central University Tigers on Sunday (Aug. 30). Kickoff against ECU at the Gorilla Soccer Pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. (CT).
