PITTSBURG - The Pittsburg State University women's soccer team ended the first week of the season with a resounding 6-0 win at the Gorilla Soccer Pitch on Sunday (Aug. 30) against the East Central University Tigers.
Pitt State (2-0) got first-half goals from
Ryann Caruth (7:37),
Avianna Gonzalez (9:21),
Abby Hoffman (14:36) and
Carrie Cunningham (30:41).
Sarah Peyton Webb,
Sammie Edwards and
Livi Jones picked up assists in the opening 45 minutes of action.
Danae Hobson (54:04) made it 5-0, with
Ella Cazzavillan and Gonzalez being credited with assists on the goal. Caruth made it 6-0 at 68:11 to finish off the scoring.
As a team, PSU held a 26-6 advantage on shots, 12-3 for shots on gaols and 9-3 for corner kicks over ECU (0-2).
Jocelyn Kramar and
Sabrina Schilt combined for a shutout, with Kramar claiming three first-half saves. Edwards led the team with four shouts while Cazzavillan led the team with three shots on goal.
Up next the Gorillas will host the Quincy University Hawks on Wednesday (Sept. 2). Kickoff from the Gorilla Soccer Pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. (CT). Quincy after the first weekend of the season is 0-0-2 with a 1-1 season opening tie against Purdue Northwest and 2-2 result against Davenport at home.
