St. Petersburg, Fla. - The Pittsburg State University volleyball team finished the second day of the Eckerd Classic with a pair of four-set wins over Puerto Rico - Mayaguez and North Greenville at the McArthur Center on Friday (Aug. 28).
Pitt State (3-0) claimed the match against UPRM (0-1) with set scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-15, 25-21. Against North Greenville (1-1) the Gorillas claimed the match with set scores of 25-15, 21-25, 25-12, 25-22.
Against P.R. - Mayaguez, the Gorillas were led by
Maddi LaPointe with 14.0 points from 11 kills (.370 hitting percentage) and six assisted blocks.
Maliyah Johnson led the team with 13 kills (.464) with no errors from 28 attacks.
Kennedy Behnke finished with 10 total blocks for the first time in her career.
Jesa Wallace (22) and
Brynna Zoeller (20) led the team for assists, while
Kassidy Nixon (16) and
Alexis Bittner (10) finished with doubel figure dig tallies.
Vix Vilott led the team with 13.5 points from 13 kills and an assisted block against NGU. LaPointe and Behnke with 11 kills each were the other members of the team to finish the match with double figure kill totals.
Crystal Smith and Behnke tied for the team lead with four total blocks. Wallace (24) and Zoeller (21) split setting duties and Nixon led the team with a 22 dig performance.
To finish the opening weekend and the Eckerd Classic, the Gorillas will play host school Eckerd at 11:00 a.m. (CT) at McArthur Center on Saturday (Aug. 29).
