St. Petersburg, Fla. - The Pittsburg State University volleyball team claimed a four-set win over the hosts of the Eckerd Classic, Eckerd College on Saturday (Aug. 29) at the McArthur Center to begin the season 4-0.
Pitt State (4-0) claimed the match with set scores of 28-26, 25-17, 19-25, 25-23. Eckerd moves to 1-2 on the young season.
Crystal Smith led the Gorillas with 20.0 points for a team-high 15 kills (.429 hitting percentage), five total blocks and a pair of service aces.
Vix Vilott (14, 14.5) and
Maddi LaPointe (13, 16.5) also finished in double figures for kills and points.
Jesa Wallace dished out 23 assists and
Brynna Zoeller contributed 22 assists.
Kassidy Nixon (18), Wallce (13) and
Mason Palace (10) were Gorillas that collected double digit digs.
Up next for Pittsburg State will be the Gorilla Classic (Sept. 2-4) at John Lance Arena. The Gorillas are schedulded to play Truman State (Sept. 2), Southwestern Oklahoma (Sept. 3), Arkansas Tech (Sept. 4) and William Jewell (Sept. 4).
