PITTSBURG - The Pittsburg State University women's soccer team scored early once again en route to the third win of the season for the Gorillas at the Gorilla Soccer Pitch on Wednesday (Sept. 2).
Pittsburg State (3-0) bested Quincy University (0-1-2) 1-0 thanks to an
Avianna Gonzalez goal at 2:51. Gonzalez finished off a play deep inside the 18-yard box thanks to a squared pass from
Danae Hobson near the end line that evaded multiple Hawk defenders and the goalie.
The Gorillas maintained the majority of possession and chances throughout the game but could not muster up an additional goal to widen the lead. As a team, PSU held a 15-6 advantage over QU for shots, 5-4 in shots on goal and 5-1 for corner kicks.
Jocelyn Kramar played the full 90 minutes in goal, recording four saves in the shutout win.
Carrie Cunningham and
Sammie Edwards both fired off four shots while five separate Gorillas recorded shots on goal.
Up next will be the first road trip of the season for the Gorillas on Saturday (Sept. 5) when they will play against the Southern Nazarene University Crimson Storm at 10:00 a.m. (CT) at the Wanda Rhodes Soccer Complex.
