PITTSBURG - The Pittsburg State University women's soccer team began the first weekend of MIAA play with a 3-0 win out on the Gorilla Soccer Pitch against Newman on Friday (Sept. 18).
For the 12th ranked Gorillas (7-0, 1-0 MIAA),
Livi Jones opened the scoring against the Jets (0-5-2, 0-1 MIAA) at 18:42.
Makenna Herrick made it 2-0 at 35:18 and
Leah Pugliese finished off the scoring at 59:19, making it 3-0.
Sarah Peyton Webb,
Mia Hunt and
Shayla Hunt each provided at least one assist.
As a team, PSU held a 32-2 advantage in shots, 16-0 for shots on goal and 13-1 for corner kicks over NU.
Danae Hobson finished with a match-high seven shots, five of which were on goal in 42 minutes.
Jocelyn Kramar and
Sabrina Schilt recorded their fourth combined shutout of the season.
Up next for the Gorillas will be No. 18 Washburn on Sunday (Sept. 20). Kickoff from the Gorilla Soccer Pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. (CT).
