KEARNEY, Neb. - The Pittsburg State University volleyball team ended the weekend with a three set defeat at the University of Nebraska - Kearney on Saturday (Sept. 26) at the Health & Sports Center.
For No. 7 UNK (15-1, 4-0 MIAA) they claimed the match with set scores of 25-21, 25-22, 25-23. As a team the Lopers committed a season-high 21 errors and hit .183, the lowest percentage so far this season in a win. Pittsburg State (11-4, 0-3 MIAA) hit a season-low .161 but came away with double figure total block tallies for the ninth time this season with 14, the most in a three set match so far this campaign.
Mason Palace finished with a team-high 10.5 points from eight kills (.348), three assisted blocks and one service ace.
Maliyah Johnson and
Crystal Smith also finished with 10.0 points. Johnson (.294),
Maddi LaPointe (.222) and Smith (.176) all finished with eight kills.
Kennedy Behnke led the match with nine total blocks, as Johnson, Smith and
Vix Vilott finished with four blocks.
Kassidy Nixon finished with a team-high 11 digs, while
Jesa Wallace (17) and
Brynna Zoeller (16) split setting duties.
Brynn Stowell claimed a match-high 14.5 points form 12 kills (.143) and four total blocks. Carly Purdy was the other member of the team to finish with double figure kill totals with 10 (.086). Ellie Eckman (19) and Callie Squiers (13) split setting duties and Ellie Spang came away with a match-high 15 digs.
Up next for the Gorillas will be a non conference match on the road against Emporia State University on Tuesday (Sept. 29). First serve from W.L. White Auditorium is set for 6:00 p.m. (CT).
