BOLIVAR, Mo. - The Pittsburg State University women's soccer team picked up a road 3-0 victory over the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats on Wednesday (Sept. 9) at the SBU Soccer Field.
Mia Hunt finished with her first collegiate brace (two goals) adding in an assist to be the first Gorilla in program history to finish a match with three goal involvements (goals + assists).
Makenna Herrick scored her first collegiate goal and
Carrie Cunningham picked up an assist in the match.
Jocelyn Kramar and
Sabrina Schilt recorded another combined shutout, as Kramar claimed a save in 74:24 of play.
As a team, the Gorillas (5-0) recorded 31 shots (second-highest amount in program history) and 13 shots on goal (T-3rd).
Macy Malik recorded a match-high five shots and was one of five from PSU to have two shots on goal. SBU (2-2-1) recorded one shot from Eli Steel at 8:14, Cece Alexander in 83 minutes in goal recorded seven saves and allowed three goals.
Hunt got the scoring started at 22:58 from the penalty spot, Herrick made it 2-0 at 66:46 from close range with Hunt picking up the assist. To finish off the scoring, Hunt added a second goal of the game to make it 3-0 at 74:24 with Cunningham picking up the assist on the goal scored just inside the 18-yard box.
Up next for the Gorillas will be a non conference match against the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats in Maryville, Mo., on Saturday (Sept. 12). Kickoff from the Bearcat Pitch is set for 11:00 a.m. (CT).
