PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pitt State Women's Basketball team will play its last warmup before conference play begins with a 6 p.m. matchup against Quincy in Quincy, Ill. on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
Scouting Quincy
Quincy is 3-0 in the 2013-14 season. The team has earned wins over Northwest Missouri, Benedictine and Northwood, winning each game by double figures. The Hawks score 82.3 points per game, while allowing opponents only 54.0 ppg. The team also outrebounds its opponents 45.0 to 33.0.
The Hawks shoot .500 from the floor overall and .368 from three-point range. The team shoots .700 from the charity stripe.
Quincy has two players averaging double figures on the season. Lucy Cramsey leads teh team with 14.3 ppg, while Nia Roth adds 13.3 ppg. Four more players are just under double figures with 9.0 or more ppg. Cramsey is also the leading rebounder with 8.3 rpg, while Felisha Loggins adds 7.3 rpg. Roth is the team's top three-point shoort, having made eight of 20 long range attempts on the season. Tori Kuhn shoots .800 (12-for-15) from the floor and is 2-for-2 from three-point range. Carly Bettencourt leads the Hawks with 3.0 assists per game, while Maggie Cunninghamd contributes 2.7 apg. Cunninghams also leads the team in steals with 11, almost foru per game. Hannah Weedman has blocked seven shots in the first three games.
Scouting Pittsburg State
Pittsburg State is 5-2 on the season and has won each of its last four games. The teams two losses were to teams either ranked or receiving votes in the WBCA pre-season poll. In their last outing, the Gorillas earned a 51-46 win over Northwest Missouri in a non-conference game.
The Gorillas average 71.6 ppg, while allowing opponents only 64.9 ppg. The team outrebounds its opponents by four rebounds per game, 40.3 rpg to 36.1 rpg. The Gorillas shoot .413 from the floor overall and .345 from three point range.
Lizzy Jeronimus leads the Gorillas with 18.1 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. Morgan Westhoff is the team's second leading scorer with 12.3 ppg. She has started in three games, but the majority of her points have come in games where she came off the bench. She is the team's top three-point shooter with 22 threes made in 42 attempts in the first seven games. Alexa Bordewick averages 8.3 ppg and leads the team in assists with 17. She has taken care of the ball well this season, with a 2.1 assist to turnover ratio. Kylie Gafford leads the team with 12 blocked shots. Antqunita Reed and Y'Cedria Devers share the lead in steals with five a piece.
PSU vs. Quincy
Pitt State is 3-1 all-time against Quincy. The last time the two teams met was last season, a 71-65 victory for the Gorillas in PIttsburg. That six-point win was teh largest margin of victory for either team, as each of the previous three meetings had all been decided by four points. The Gorillas lead 2-1 in PIttsburg and 1-0 in Quincy.
Last Time vs. Quincy
Despite trailing most of the game, the Pitt State Women's basketball team made a late comeback to earn a 71-65 win over the Quincy Hawks in John Lance Arena on Saturday (December 1) evening.
Pitt State outscored Quincy 18-6 over the last 6:55 to earn the win. There were three ties and a lead change in the last five minutes of the game. Quincy led by six, 59-53, with 6:55 to go. The Gorillas then went on a 6-0 run to tie the game at 59-59. A jumper by Maggie Cunningham with 3:27 left gave Quincy a two-point advantage. Hailey Roderique and Lizzy Jeronimus each made two free throws for Pitt State to give Pitt State a 63-61 lead, but a jumper by the Hawks Felisha Loggins tied the game again.
A Loggins foul sent Jeronimus to the line again. She sunk both, just two of her 11 points from the charity stripe on the night, to once again give Pitt State the lead with 1:56 on the clock. The next trip down the court Jeronimus hit a layup for a four-point lead, 67-63. The rest of the points were all made from the free throw line, two by Quincy's Kely Buresh and two each from Drew Roberts and Jeronimus.
Jeronimus led the Gorillas with 25 points, 21 of which she scored in the second half. She was a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line. She also added four rebounds, an assist and a steal. Morgan Westhoff came off the bench to score 10 points. Cathy Brugman was just under double figures with nine and she led the Gorillas in rebounds with five. Hailey Roderique scored seven points, five on perfect 5-for-5 shooting from the line.
Quincy had three players in double figures. Kelly Buresh led the team with a double-double, 20 points and 10 rebounds. Loggins added 12 points and Cunningham, 10.
Pitt State took care of the ball well, committing only five turnovers on the night. The team shot 44.6 percent overall, including 56 percent in the second half. The area where the team struggled was on the glass, as the Gorillas were outrebounded 40-27.
Quincy led by seven at the half, 32-25, the largest lead of the game by either team.

Pitt State will not play another game until it begins MIAA conference play on Thursday, December 5 in Maryville, Mo. at 5 p.m The team will not have another home game until December 18 against Truman.
She Shoots, She Scores
Junior Lizzy Jeronimus is one of 17 players in school history to score 1,000 points in her career. She finished her sophomore season with 1,020 points, having scored them in 60 games, second fastest to the 1,000 point mark in school history. Now with 1,147 points, Jeronimus is the 12th leading all-time scorer, just passing former teammate Drew Roberts. She is 80 points from 11th and 84 points from passing current assistant coach Amanda Davied to moveinto the top 10.
Jeronimus has scored in double figures in all but six games in her career and in 40 straight games, dating back to Feb. 25, 2012, her freshman season. She has scored 20 points or more in four of seven games this season and in 26 career games.
Westhoff for THREEEEEE
Junior Morgan Westhoff has already hit 22 threes this season, including a career-high seven threes against Indianapolis. She is only the third person to make seven or more threes in a game in school history. Kara Kinney made eight threes twice in the 2005-06 season. Pitt State's prolific three-point shooting Jenni Miller hit eight threes in a game three times in her career, nine threes once and a school record 11 threes on Jan. 28, 1995 against Truman.
Westhoff has made 89 threes in just over two years at Pitt State, averaging just over one a game for her career. Last season she hit she under two threes a game. This season she has paced herself just over four threes per game.
