QUINCY, Ill. -- A hot shooting Quincy team defeated the Gorillas, 80-59, on Wednesday (November 27) night at the Pepsi Arena.

The Hawks (4-0) shot 56 percent for the game, and at one time in the second half were shooting nearly 63 percent. The team also shot 44 percent from long range.

The Gorillas (5-3) shot only 37 percent overall for the game and made only two threes, both in the first half.

Lizzy Jeronimus led the Gorillas with 19 points and five rebounds. She also had two assists, a block and a steal. Kylie Gafford was just short of double figures with nine points and led the team with three steals. Y'Cedria Devers contributed five rebounds, while Cathy Brugman had four.

Quincy had four players in double figures, led by Hannah Weedman with 15. Felisha Loggins and Nia Roth each added 12, while Lucy Cramsey had 10.

Quincy was able to take a 35-27 lead at the half after holding the Gorillas to just one field goal in the last 5:30 of the first half. During that time, the Hawks were able to put up 15 points.

The home team led early in the game, 11-5 before Pitt State forced several turnovers in a row. A Bordewick three with 10:05 remaining in the first half brought the Gorillas within one at 18-17. A Lizzy Jeronimus jumper at 9:22 gave the Gorillas their first lead of the game, 19-18. Pitt State was able to hold the Hawks without scoring for over three minutes, from 8:54 to 5:38 to take a 25-20 lead with 6:04 to go in the half.

The second half was all the Lady Hawks, as they opened the half with a 19-3 run to take a 54-30 lead with 12:27 to go.

Pitt State will have a week to prepare to open the MIAA portion of the season, as they will not play again until traveling to Maryville, Mo. on December 5 to take on the Northwest Missouri Bearcats at 5:30 p.m.
